Bug in Windows 8 and Server 2012!
If you attended my Windows 8 and/or Windows Server 2012 sessions at Tulsa TechFest 2 weeks ago you already know about this issue, but the rest of you may not.
The bug is:
When you attach an external USB drive to a Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012 computer and then set up a share on the USB drive, the share cannot be accessed from other machines. When you attempt to connect to the share in question you receive the following error:
This error occurs with both Share and NTFS permissions set to allow everyone full control.
This error does not occur when accessing shares on internal SAS, SATA or SSD drives, so all administrative shares work correctly. Microsoft is aware of the bug, but is being maddeningly quiet on what is being done to resolve it. If you have run into this bug, or if this bug is something that will have an effect on your decision to deploy Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012 please join in the conversation on this Microsoft Forum dealing with this issue:
The more voices we can get behind the problem the better chance we have of getting Microsoft to respond quickly.
